You can now Root Android M!

While it wasn’t totally unexpected, rooting the new developer preview of Android M wasn’t the first thing i thought of when Pichai was unveiling the update. Rooting a Nexus however, has not been seen as one of the most difficult tasks in the Android community. The community prevails once again with this root method for Android M.

There are many things not working to full potential in M, but one of those that we though we’re broken happens to just be hidden: VoLTE.

During today’s Google I/O ‘15 Day 1 keynote announcement, the Google Developers team revealed the long-awaited Android M — we were even treated to a developer preview that you can run on your Nexus 5, 6, 9, or Player right now! There are some subtle changes to M as far as UI goes but there’s at least enough to show off. And that’s exactly what I plan to do. If you are unsure about what M will provide for you, I hope to answer some question with the gallery below and will make some remarks as time goes on. First off, again, not much has changed; the dev preview is stable as well. One of the big features that I plan on trying is ‘Now on Tap’.

Collections Brings Grouping Posts by Topic to Google+

Google+ has been overdue for a new feature and Google has definitely satisfied that today by announcing and releasing “Collections.” Collections is a way to group your posts by their topic. For example, you could create a Collection that is comic book based and fill it up with a bunch of neat comic news. Clarity Keyboard Gets Outed by Swiftkey as Part of its Greenhouse Program

Swiftkey has quietly unveiled to the world that it has created a new branch/project called Greenhouse, which will be where the company will host all of their upcoming beta projects — similar to the one they revealed today. The first project is a third-party keyboard (as if we don’t have enough of those), titled Clarity.
Android Lollipop 5.1.1 Factory Images are Here!

It seems like just yesterday Google released the recent Android 5.1 update and here we are now sitting on the images for 5.1.1 (LMY47V). Of course these images won’t all arrive at the same time, as we’re still waiting for the Nexus 9 to receive 5.1, but of course we’ll keep you updated on the progress.
[Root] CM Recovery Now Working on Nexus Player

It was only a matter of time right? Soon after the Nexus Player was released, Chainfire had working root on it (probably just for proof of concept), and now, thanks to developer dhacker29 (famous for keeping Motorola devices alive and functioning) we have a working custom recovery for the premier Android TV player.

MultiRom used to be a root tweak that was at the top of everyone’s mind, but as of late, it hasn’t been receiving much traction. The last major phones that were supported were the Nexus 5, HTC One M8, and the Galaxy S4. However, with this latest update, the tweak that allows you to run multiple ROMs is getting a breath of new life thanks to its added support for our favorite whale, Shamu.

The DROID brand deserves the majority of credit for the amount of early success that the Android operating system had in 2009 and 2010. From the original Motorola DROID to the original DROID Incredible, this was the brand of phones that people flocked to if they wanted a phone outside of the iPhone, not just because of a great marketing campaign, but because these were top of the line phones. Ask most of the readers on this site which phone got them started on Android, and you shouldn’t be surprised to hear them say, “The OG DROID.” It’s an iconic phone that helped launch Android to the top.
