CES will Have Plenty of Google TV Products, but it’s the ASUS Qube I’m Most Excited About
Google has confirmed a number of manufacturers who will be showcasing Google TV products in the upcoming weeks at CES, however, it’s the ASUS Qube I’m most excited about seeing. I’ve been hoping for an affordable Google TV solution to hit the market for quite some time and yes, I’m aware there are already a few affordable options (I currently own a Vizio Co-Star). However, none of those options have worked quite as well as I had hoped and if there’s one company that can get it right, it’s ASUS.
ASUS has done an excellent job in the Android tablet arena and has even managed to bring us the ultra-affordable, feature-rich Nexus 7. Their support has been astounding, and I’ve yet to see a single manufacturer push out updates faster.
It’s that kind of dedication, attention, and customer service that has me excited to see what kind of Google TV product they can come up with.
A Google TV set top box dongle referred to as the ASUS Qube, has already passed through the FCC and it’s assumed this is the product ASUS will be unveiling at CES 2013.
There have been rumors of the ASUS Qube being a Nexus device and replacing the failure that was the Nexus Q, however, I’m extremely skeptical of that and believe the Qube will simply be an ultra-light, extremely portable, Google TV set top box dongle.
Google TV set top boxes haven’t been the most portable of devices and usually require some form of cabled connection. If ASUS comes out with a wireless dongle that can be plugged into any compatible source such as laptop, desktop, TV, etc. and turn it into a full fledged Google TV, I’ll be extremely interested (given the right price).
So while we’re bound to see Google TVs galore, it’s the ASUS Qube I’ll be keeping an eye out for.

The DROID brand deserves the majority of credit for the amount of early success that the Android operating system had in 2009 and 2010. From the original Motorola DROID to the original DROID Incredible, this was the brand of phones that people flocked to if they wanted a phone outside of the iPhone, not just because of a great marketing campaign, but because these were top of the line phones. Ask most of the readers on this site which phone got them started on Android, and you shouldn’t be surprised to hear them say, “The OG DROID.” It’s an iconic phone that helped launch Android to the top.
