Android 5.1 Lollipop Unwrapped With New Connectivity Features

Yesterday, when all the Apple hullabaloo was going around, Google decided to grace us with a new Android update, Android 5.1 Lollipop. Android 5.1 was never touted as being a great change from the Lollipop 5.0.2 we have been using, but we’re seeing a lot of fixes and a couple of features relating to networks.

Android 5.1 now has native support for dual-SIM devices, HD voice calling (a.k.a VoLTE), and added device protection to help keep your information secure even if someone steals your device. The dual-SIM and VoLTE are pretty self explanatory but the device protection is pretty neat.

With Lollipop 5.1 there’s new settings to keep your device account-locked even after the device has been put under factory reset orders. This thwarts thieves from getting into or even using your device after taking it — those sticky figures are now (mostly) rendered useless.

With Lollipop 5.1 announced, expect it to go out to Nexus devices first (usually), but just be on the lookout to see if it has hit your device. We will try to keep you up to date on the progress as it rolls out to newer devices.

What features are you still waiting to come to Android?
